About Mike
Mike Grage is part of The Bonneville Shop’s customer and technical support team and writes about motorcycle maintenance, restoration, and parts selection. His articles focus on practical solutions for riders and owners of classic British motorcycles, especially Triumph models.
Mike Grage’s passion for motorcycles began with his first bike in 1977 and grew into a career built on hands-on experience, technical expertise, and a deep appreciation for vintage British machines. He got his first street bike in 1984 and began working in a motorcycle dealership the same year as a shop helper, setting the foundation for a lifelong profession in the industry.
In 1990, Mike enrolled at Motorcycle Mechanic’s Institute, where he completed his training in 1991 with grades averaging over 90%, including perfect scores in electrical systems and basic engine machining. That same year, he completed his first concours restoration: a 1969 BSA A65L freshwater flood bike.
By 1992, Mike had begun his career as a certified motorcycle technician, engine machinist, and engine performance specialist. From 1995 through 2001, he spent about six years as a lead technician at a Triumph/Indian dealership.
Over the years, Mike Grage has bought, revived, restored, and resold more than 100 vintage British motorcycles, especially during the 1990s and 2000s when project bikes were more readily available. His experience spans everything from resurrection projects to restorations.
Reviews for Mike Grage
“Recently, I had a battery shipped to me that was damaged. It took a reasonable, short few days and Mike got it all fixed, with a replacement. He provided great communication. I am a happy with The Bonneville Shop and am a happy rider again. Also, I purchased and installed a single unit, regulator/rectifier that eliminates the zener diode, which provides clean stable DC current and regulator for clean stable 12 DC voltage to the battery in one little box. Installed on my 78 Bonneville. “OH BOY”, there is a difference. Thank you, Mike.” -David
