ThreeBond 1184 is a synthetic rubber Visco-elastic semi-drying sealant that is ideal for joining engine cases where there is no gasket used. Long favored by vintage motorcycle engine builders for its workability and sealing properties.
The sealant is a gray liquid with a pliable elasticity when dried. It offers excellent resistance to water, oil, gasoline, and chemicals with a temperature range of -40°C to 150°C. Made in Japan.
Sealants can be used in conjunction with traditional thin paper gaskets in applications where modern gaskets are not available.
Mating surface preparation is of the utmost importance when joining two parts to seal an oil-bearing cavity. Acetone can be used to clean residual or undesirable sealant from alloy surfaces.
Key Features:
- Resistance:Â Excellent resistance to oil, water, gasoline and chemicals.
- Vibration and Impact Absorption: The special synthetic rubber composition allows it to absorb vibrations and impacts without failure, particularly in environments involving coolants.
- Large Clearance Sealing: It shows excellent sealing effects on both normal bonded surfaces and those with large clearances.
- Versatility: Semi-drying nature allows for easier disassembly compared to fully curing sealant.
