This fork tube puller tool kit is essential for any mechanic working on vintage British motorcycles. The tool makes a challenging procedure relatively easy when correctly used on telescopic forks with external springs. Also useful for internal spring forks where resistance is met while sliding the stanchion through the lower fork yoke and up into the top yoke.
The kit contains (7) different adaptors ranging in size from 15/16″ to 1-3/16″ and feature 20 TPI, 26 TPI, and 28 TPI threads to fit a wide range of fork tubes. The long threaded rod is zinc-plated and features a ‘T’ handle at the top for easy rotation. The entire kit is housing in a durable poly case.Â
The large nut is threaded onto the threaded shaft of the puller, then the abutment plate is slipped over the shaft. An appropriately sized adaptor is selected and placed on the mandrel end of the threaded rod. A nut and washer secure the adaptor onto the rod, and the assembly is lowered through the top fork yoke to capture the assembled fork stanchion assembly, then threaded well into the stanchion. The nut on the shaft is tightened and bears against the abutment plate, pulling the fork tube assembly into place, easily overcoming the force of the fork spring.Â
Once the fork tube assembly is fully drawn into the top fork yoke, the lower fork yoke pinch bolts are tightened to allow the tool to be withdrawn from the fork tube without displacing the position of the fork tube assembly in the top fork yoke. Once the fork oil is added, the top nut is installed to secure the fork tube assembly.
