Description

The 389 Amal Monobloc carburetor was specified in various conditions for fitment to large displacement British singles and twins from the early 1960s through 1967. We designate this 1-1/8″ bore Monobloc the 389/18-01, appropriate for the various Triumph TR6 and T120 650cc models. We also offer a 389/18-02 and 389/18-03, all with a 1-1/8″ bore, but jetted differently for various applications. Sold individually.

The genuine Amal 389/18-01 Monobloc carburetor is made in the UK, and is supplied with a 3.5 cutaway throttle valve, 330 main jet, .106 needle jet, and a 25 pilot jet. The adjuster screws are on the right side of the body, and the integrated float chamber is on the left side of the carburetor.

The Monobloc is a very tunable instrument and can be calibrated to perform well on many different motorcycles outside of the Triumph 650 twin-cylinder models. Even when fitting the 389/18-01 Monobloc to the intended application of early unit-construction Triumph 650 models, some jetting and/or throttle valve cutaway adjustments can be expected, due to exhaust and induction modifications on competition models.

The mounting flange is fitted to the inlet manifold studs and secured with nuts. The banjo fitting at the float needle seating block is retained with a special bolt that allows introduction of fuel into the float chamber. Supplied with a choke assembly. Refer to the factory workshop manual for fitment and tuning procedures.
