Dave Porter – Tech and Customer Support

Dave Porter is a technical support specialist and longtime vintage British motorcycle expert at The Bonneville Shop. With extensive hands-on experience working on classic Triumph, BSA, and Norton motorcycles, Dave writes practical how-to articles that help riders diagnose problems, understand original design quirks, and keep their machines on the road.

Dave Porter started out in Brit bikes when he bought some inventory from a dealer who retired. He started educating himself on the parts books and parts and one thing led to another.

He bought his first bike on eBay in 2001, a 1971 Triumph Bonneville T120R that didn’t even have an ignition. After repairing it and selling it, his next purchase was a 1971 TR6R that he describes as a “basket case.”  Having repaired ½ dozen of his own bikes, Dave  started offering repairs and maintenance to customers at his shop in Colorado, Old World Bikes.

At Old World Bikes, initially it was Triumph 650s and 750s that Dave worked and soon thereafter a 500 or a BSA started coming through his shop. He’s also worked on a few Norton Commandos. Overall, Dave has bought and sold and fixed up about 25-30 Triumphs his favorite being the 1970 TR6R (which he’s owned 4 of).

Dave’s expertise comes through fixing up his own collection, print resources and supportive mentors who came up with these Brit bikes in the 1950s and 60s. Additionally, Dave always enjoyed the British Conclave gathering and working on the bikes of British Motorcycle Association of Colorado members.

Whether you’re looking for some sensible upgrades, have a budget friendly project or want to achieve a purist restoration, Dave can guide you along the way.

Praise for Dave Porter:

“My name is Chuck.  I have for a number of years, been a customer of Bonneville Shop.

[…]

So, what makes me a repeat customer?????   Well, it boils down to several things, but there is an overriding factor.  I want quality parts and reasonable prices.  I like the quick shipping.

Yet, more than those things……..it comes down to personalities in the whole package sense.  Specifically, I am talking of Dave Porter.  He IS my go-to guy.  While I sometimes speak with other people and they could be helpful, but to me, I want to speak to the MAN!!!!  He has been there, done that, knows his stuff.  He is, in short, a professional.  I wish you to recognize him for this and make him aware of a customer’s appreciation.”
